Frequently Asked Questions
Creating Your Custom Gown
How does the custom design process work?
Your custom journey begins by submitting our Custom Order Form so our team can review your event details, design preferences, required date, and budget. If your project is a good fit, we will invite you to schedule a consultation with our designer. During the consultation, we will discuss your vision, fabrics, measurements, design details, and create your sketch. A final quote and estimated completion timeline will then be provided. A 70% deposit is required to confirm the order and begin production.
Do you work with clients outside of Charlotte?
Yes. While our showroom is located in Charlotte, North Carolina, we work with clients beyond our local area through virtual consultations and remote measurement guidance. Completed garments can be shipped to clients where delivery is available.
How far in advance should I begin a custom bridal gown?
We recommend beginning the custom bridal process approximately 6–9 months before your event date. More intricate designs may require additional time. Rush requests may be considered depending on our production schedule and the complexity of the design.
How long does a non-bridal custom gown take?
Production time varies depending on the design, materials, embellishments, fittings, and our current production schedule. Your anticipated completion timeline will be discussed during your consultation and confirmed as part of your custom order.
Can I choose my fabric and design details?
Absolutely. Fabric, color, silhouette, embellishments, and other design details are discussed as part of the custom design process. Final selections are subject to availability and suitability for the approved design.
Can you recreate another designer's gown exactly?
We welcome inspiration images to help communicate your preferences; however, Moor Clothing does not replicate another designer’s work exactly. Our custom process is centered on creating an original design tailored to you.
Finding the Right Gown
How do I purchase a ready-to-wear gown?
Ready-to-wear gowns may be purchased directly through our online shop. If you prefer to view available pieces in person, you may also book a showroom shopping appointment.
How do I choose the correct size?
Please review the sizing information provided with the gown before ordering and compare it carefully with your measurements. Because fit can vary depending on a garment’s construction and silhouette, we recommend using the measurements provided rather than relying solely on your usual dress size.
Can my ready-to-wear gown be altered?
Depending on the gown and the alterations required, alterations may be available or may be completed by a qualified alterations professional. Please note that a ready-to-wear garment altered to a client’s measurements or specifications becomes final sale and is not eligible for exchange except where otherwise provided in our Shipping & Returns Policy.
Do you offer gown rentals?
No. Moor Clothing gowns are available for purchase only; we do not currently offer rentals.
After Your Purchase
How long will my ready-to-wear order take to arrive?
Ready-to-wear orders are generally processed within 5–7 business days, unless otherwise stated on the product page. Processing time is separate from shipping transit time. Available shipping methods and estimated delivery dates are shown during checkout.
Can I return or exchange a ready-to-wear gown?
An unworn and unaltered ready-to-wear gown may be eligible for exchange, subject to our Shipping & Returns Policy. Exchange requests must be made within the applicable timeframe, and the garment must remain in its original condition with all tags and components attached. Custom and altered garments are final sale.
What if my gown arrives damaged or incorrect?
Please contact us within 48 hours of confirmed delivery with your order number, a description of the issue, and clear photographs. Our team will review the concern and determine the appropriate resolution in accordance with our Shipping & Returns Policy.
How should I care for my gown?
Care requirements vary depending on the fabric, construction, and embellishments of each gown. Please follow the care guidance provided with your garment or on the applicable product page. Delicate, hand-beaded, sequined, crystal-embellished, or specialty-fabric gowns should be handled with particular care.
Planning Your Experience
Do I need an appointment?
An appointment is required for custom consultations, fittings, and certain in-person services. If you are interested in a custom gown, please submit the Custom Order Form first and wait for our team to invite you to schedule a consultation. Ready-to-wear showroom shopping appointments do not require a Custom Order Form.
Is there a consultation fee?
Yes. Custom design consultations require a consultation fee. The fee is non-refundable; however, when applicable, 50% of the fee is credited toward your final gown cost if you proceed with a custom order.
When does my custom order officially begin?
Your custom order is confirmed and production begins once the required 70% deposit has been received. The date of your consultation does not mark the beginning of production.
What are the starting prices for custom gowns?
Custom pricing varies according to the type of gown, fabric, construction, embellishments, and design complexity. Please visit our Pricing page for current starting prices. A final quote is provided after your design requirements have been reviewed.
Do you offer payment plans?
Custom orders follow the payment structure outlined during your consultation, including the required deposit to begin production. For eligible online shop purchases, third-party pay-over-time options may also be available at checkout. Availability and approval are determined by the applicable payment provider.
